Plot Summary
This verse novel tells the story of Declan, who is about to start high school in Alice Springs, being reunited with his father.
He learns that his father was a member of the Stolen Generations, taken from his grandmother’s home to a mission far away, and then separated from his younger sister, who he has never been able to find.
Meanwhile, his best friend’s little sister tragically dies in an accident, and Declan experiences and observes the grief of family and community.
The story is sad, and yet reinforces the strength of family, and at the story’s end Declan is full of hope for the future.
