Written from the heart, using simple often cheeky illustrations, Nicole Dixon’s first book Via conveys a powerful message to bring about more awareness of Autism.
Via is a short story about a girl who loves to do many different things. It was written to emphasise that you should never place limitations on what a person can and can’t do no matter what.
Nicole hopes that this can be used as a mantra for many other parents/guardians and education providers who sometimes struggle to understand what is going on through the minds of those with the condition.
Reviews
I have worked for a number of years in early childhood education and I would highly recommend VIA as a book to read to young children. It is very engaging with its colourful illustrations and simple, repetitive text. However, the underlying message of acceptance of differences comes through very powerfully. I have used it with different groups of children in Kindergarten and Stage 1 classes and they were very engaged. Well done Nicole! - Denise Mewett
